DUBAI - Dubai will seek Interpol's help in the arrest of a former top executive of the emirate's investment vehicle Istithmar after a court jailed him for five years in absentia for fraud, local daily the National reported on Thursday.

Chris Turner, a British national and former risk assessment manager at Istithmar, was found guilty on Tuesday by a Dubai court of embezzling $1.3 million.

Dubai Police could seek an Interpol Red Notice to pursue Turner, who is believed to be somewhere in Europe.

“If the person is believed to be outside of the country, his location will be investigated and steps will be taken to return him in order to face his prosecution or serve his sentence,” Shoaib Ahly, a public prosecutor, was quoted as saying by the National.

A Red Notice allows for an arrest warrant to be circulated internationally for pursuing the person wanted in a foreign jurisdiction.

Dubai may seek Turner’s extradition under a 2008 extradition treaty between the UAE and Britain.

Turner has told the media from his undisclosed location that he is not guilty of charges against him and is "reviewing my legal options".
